Moving Checklist and Tips

Posted November 5, 2012

It’s moving day and everything is packed in your moving kit and ready to be shipped off to your new home. Next, you’re going to want to make sure that when those shipping boxes arrive at your new abode, you are ready for your first few days there as well.

Common sense is the key to the strategy of this part of your move. Make sure that your essentials are packed in a car with you. Some common things to keep handy include the following

A change of clothes for everyone in your household

A towel for everyone in the household

Any prescription drugs should not be packed away with whatever shipping boxes you have packed with you in your car.

Pack a bag containing a toothbrush and any other personal hygiene items that you and your family may want quick access to.

The first evening you are at your new place you’re definitely going to be hungry after spending the last several days packing your life into moving supplies and boxes. Make sure that you have the following ready in order to eat a great meal in your new home; plastic utensils, paper plates and napkins, and plastic cups.

If you want to make sure all of your bases are covered just in case the shipping boxes containing everything from your old place arrive late, have a box with you that contains the following; bathroom tissue, any toiletries that you feel you may need, trash bags, a first aid kit, a flashlight, re-sealable plastic bags, snacks and drinks.

Also be sure to have a small tool kit on hand in order to reassemble any items that may have needed to be disassembled in shipping.

Some clean linens for each bed in the house. You are more than likely going to be drained from all of the moving and not want to do much besides eat and sleep the first night in your new home. There’s nothing worse than having to search through all of your shipping boxes in order to just find some sheets so you can go to sleep, so make sure you have these on hand. An easy way to pack your linens, blankets and mattress is to use hand stretch film.
